The Jansenville Clinic

In 1979 a clinic was opened in Klipplaat by Sister Jenny Birch, (wife of Derek Birch, once owner of Millwood farm). Jenny was fluent in Xhosa which was a tremendous help when dealing with patients whose only language was Xhosa. The clinic is now situated at Wongalethu with an additional clinic in Princevale.

When Klipplaat was a village Sister Jenny Birch and an assistant Sister drove from house to house in her VW Beetle to administer birth-control and immunisations. Later, a crèche was started to look after the infants while their parents worked.
